SUMMARY:MGFCC Annual Business meeting
DESCRIPTION:Please register here so that we can ensure to have appropriate seating and snacks available. Contact: judiestanton46@icloud.com. \n6:00 – Welcome and speaker introduction \n6:10 – 7:00 – Guest speaker – Heidi Roth\nFrom Desert to Abundance: A Journey Through Food\, Farming\, and Community in the PNW by Heidi Roth\nGrowing up in a food desert in northern Arizona sparked Heidi’s passion for finding good\,\nhealthy food. Her journey began while traveling for work\, inspiring her to recreate incredible\ndishes at home. When sourcing organic ingredients proved challenging\, she started a small food\nblog to document those efforts. Five years ago\, Heidi consciously moved to Washington\, drawn\nby its vibrant slow food movement. Living on her sister’s farm and working for a Thurston\nCounty destination marketing organization expanded her journey as a content creator\,\nexploring sustainable practices\, questioning our food system\, and highlighting local chefs who\nsource from local growers. This experience ultimately led her to understand the foundational\nagricultural practices shaping it all. Her current obsession is uncovering how small growers and\ngardeners can cultivate resilience and achieve water-wise success\, especially through dry\nfarming in our unique Pacific Northwest climate. \nHeidi’s talk will be a journey through her personal experiences and discoveries\, offering insights\nand stories on everything from navigating food deserts to empowering small growers with\nwater-wise and dry farming techniques\, and exploring the profound community-building\naspects of growing and sharing good food. \n7:05 – Foundation accomplishments 2025 \n7:10 – Hannah McDougall – School Gardens Coordinator \n7:25 – Election results

SUMMARY:On the Road Tour: Hood River Potpourri
DESCRIPTION:Join the WSU Extension Clark County Master Gardener program for an On the Road Tour and leave the driving to us. Sit back and enjoy our potpourri of the Hood River area. Our first stop is at Mt. Adams Fruit Orchard.  Family owned for more than a century\, they grow and harvest cherries\, apples and pears on over 2\,000 acres.  We will learn about what’s involved in keeping such an immense growing operation going despite a high elevation\, shorter growing season. The next stop is lunch (on your own) at the scenic Riverside Restaurant. \n \nThen\, we’ll continue deeper into Hood River and visit the fragrant and lovely Hope Ranch Lavender Farm.  Specializing in many different varieties of lavender\, we will see the process of distilling the oil and get an opportunity to u-pick our own bouquet and meander the fields.  Our last stop is at Packer Orchards and Farm Place.  They have a five-generation legacy in Hood River and take great pride in their deep-rooted heritage.  We will learn about their orchards that are bursting with seasonal fruits.  \n \nBring water\, sunscreen\, and a hat and wear comfortable walking shoes. Thursday\, Aug. 14 8am to 5pm. Vans depart on time! Cost: $35. Advanced registration required here. Contact: erika.d.johnson@wsu.edu or (564) 397-5738.
