SUMMARY:From Fronds to Flowers: a Native Tour with Gardens
DESCRIPTION:From Fronds to Flowers:  a Native Tour with Gardens – April 23\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoin the WSU Extension Master Gardeners of Clark County for an On The Road Tour and leave the driving to us.  We will spend the day exploring the beauty and ecological richness of Southwest Washington through forests\, gardens\, and native plant nurseries. This guided tour highlights how gardeners can support wildlife and local ecosystems using native plants and thoughtful landscape design.  \n \nBegin the day with a guided educational walk along the scenic Moulton Falls Park trail. The wide\, paved path follows the river through a mixed forest of bigleaf maple\, alder\, cedar\, and Douglas fir\, along with forest understory plants dominated by a variety of spectacular ferns.  Along the way\, our guide will identify native plants and discuss their ecological roles\, how they support wildlife\, and how they can be incorporated into home landscapes.\n \nNext\, we will visit NatureScaping’s\, Wildlife Botanical Gardens\, a blend of specialty theme gardens spread across two acres in Brush Prairie. These demonstration gardens highlight practical gardening techniques and include a garden dedicated to native plants.  Their native garden is being redesigned\, and we’ll get to consider how their garden is different or like our own. \n \nLunch at Oak Tree Station in Camas features various food carts and comfortable indoor or outdoor seating. Our last stop is Goodyear Farms\, a Pacific Northwest nursery specializing in plants native to the region. The nursery grows many of its own plants and works closely with other native plant nurseries to offer a wide and interesting selection.  After seeing it in the wild\, planning for it in a landscape garden\, you can buy your favorites or find new ones.  April 23 at 8:30am. Van arrival back to Heritage Farm 4:30pm. Dress for cool or rainy weather.  No pets allowed.  Bathrooms available at every location. Cost: $35 (plus tax\, fees). Register here. For more information: (564) 397-5738 or Erika.d.johnson@wsu.edu. Learn more at  http://extension.wsu.edu/clark/gardening/workshops-events/.

Topics include appropriate containers and soil mixes\, pruning for container growing and ideas for keeping the trees dry through the winter and spring. Each participant will graft and take home their own stone fruit (peach\, nectarine\, apricot\, etc.) tree. Saturday\, March 28 from 1 to 3:30pm in Vancouver\, WA. Cost: $15 (plus tax\, fees). DESCRIPTION:Please register here so that we can ensure to have appropriate seating and snacks available. Her journey began while traveling for work\, inspiring her to recreate incredible\ndishes at home. When sourcing organic ingredients proved challenging\, she started a small food\nblog to document those efforts. Five years ago\, Heidi consciously moved to Washington\, drawn\nby its vibrant slow food movement. Living on her sister’s farm and working for a Thurston\nCounty destination marketing organization expanded her journey as a content creator\,\nexploring sustainable practices\, questioning our food system\, and highlighting local chefs who\nsource from local growers. This experience ultimately led her to understand the foundational\nagricultural practices shaping it all. Her current obsession is uncovering how small growers and\ngardeners can cultivate resilience and achieve water-wise success\, especially through dry\nfarming in our unique Pacific Northwest climate. \nHeidi’s talk will be a journey through her personal experiences and discoveries\, offering insights\nand stories on everything from navigating food deserts to empowering small growers with\nwater-wise and dry farming techniques\, and exploring the profound community-building\naspects of growing and sharing good food. \n7:05 – Foundation accomplishments 2025 \n7:10 – Hannah McDougall – School Gardens Coordinator \n7:25 – Election results
